WordPress SEO Checklist
A practical WordPress review covering setting ownership, rendered pages and safe changes. Print or save this checklist locally.
Before editing.
Confirm who owns the site and release process. Do not collect passwords in a contact form.
Confirm WordPress compatibility and access responsibilities before sharing access or changing settings.
- Identify theme, builder and SEO plugin.
- Confirm appropriate collaborator access.
- Confirm backups and staging for the proposed change.
- Record important page URLs and form endpoints.
Page and template checks.
Inspect the public output as well as CMS settings.
The WordPress SEO service scope separates approved content changes from specialist theme or plugin engineering.
- A unique title and useful main heading.
- Canonical and indexation settings appropriate to the page.
- Real business details and approved claims.
- Useful internal links and reachable contact paths.
- Visible content consistent with structured data.
After the change.
A saved editor state is only one step.
- Check the rendered page and mobile layout.
- Test the real form success and failure path safely.
- Check key links and redirects.
- Record the URL, date, change and verification.
- Keep the agreed reversal steps available.
Worked example: two places setting a canonical.
Fictional example: the editor shows the intended canonical, but the public page contains a conflicting second tag. Record the rendered output first. Identify whether the theme, plugin or custom code owns each tag, then agree a change with the site owner rather than disabling plugins blindly.
- Keep a backup and the previous configuration available.
- Inspect the public HTML after the change, including another page using the same template.
- Check the key form and navigation; a correct tag does not prove the rest of the site still works.
Useful questions.
Is a green plugin score sufficient?
No. Review the rendered page, business accuracy and working enquiry path. A plugin score does not verify rankings, accessibility, form delivery or all technical settings.
Can SearchRally help implement this?
